Dumbest. Protests. Ever.

On 2 of the last 3 weekends, I have participated in dumb political rallies & marches. Three weekends ago, I spent untold seconds working on a sign, gathered with others on one of our local bridges, and rallied support to …

Voting rights. Of all things, freakin’ voting rights, guaranteed under the Constitution. Isn’t that the dumbest thing to have to rally for? Sure, we got some support, waves, and honks. But we also got plenty of thumbs down and middle fingers. How are they against voting rights? One guy with a bunch of cameras hanging around his neck (btw, who does that anymore when phones take such excellent pics?) loped past me mouth-breathing and muttering under his breath. As he passed my sign, he sputtered, “Protect the Constitution.” I politely reminded him that voting rights were protected by the Constitution and amendments to it. And then he was off. He told me that the voting rights bills that Democrats were trying to get passed into law would allow illegal aliens to vote. I assured him that neither of the main voting rights bills being considered would allow that and suggested he read the bills. He replied, “F#@%in’ Democrats.” That’s typically how it goes. Present the opposition with facts, and the obscenities start to fly.

One other interaction stood out. As a car drove by, the driver leaned out the window and yelled, “F#@%in’ Jews.” Profane and racist. Nice combo. If we were Jews, he needs to be more careful. Doesn’t he listen to fellow conservative conspiracy crackpot Marjorie Taylor Greene with her theory about Jews having space lasers that she claims started California wildfires? Maybe those space lasers can be focused to incinerate a passing car spewing obscenities. All I need to do is give my buddy George Soros a call to get some space laser action sent my way.

That rally was dumb enough. But then this past weekend, we rallied and marched for …

How Dumb Can Trumpers Be?

One of my neighbors allowed me to plant a nice row of 5 Democratic candidate signs at the back of their property along a main road.

There are 4 signs of very important candidates that we hope will flip our county board Democratic, flip an Illinois House seat Democratic, and retain Democratic control of our House of Representatives seat on the federal level. The least important sign is the Biden/Harris sign in the middle. The Biden/Harris race is OVER in Illinois. They should win Illinois with 65% of the vote.

So, what sign gets stolen by Trumpers? That’s right, the Biden/Harris sign. That race has never really been in doubt in Illinois.

I gladly replaced the Biden sign, hoping the idiot Trumpers take the bait once again and steal the Biden sign while leaving the rest. Don’t let me down, dummies.

Signs of the Time

Every 2 years, signs sprout up in our yard. The crop is good this year.

I couldn’t help but notice that I have unintentionally arranged the signs like a middle school dance – girls on one side and boys on the other. It’s certainly not a special shrine to Joe Biden like the one that I saw when I biked through our old neighborhood.

Reunite & ICE

We had a genuine, official MoveOn Families Belong Together rally in our sleepy little Chicago suburb today. Can you guess which sign I made?

If you chose the crappy looking one on the right that you thought may have taken me 5 minutes to make, award yourself 10 points. But then deduct 5 points because it really took me only 3 minutes.

The rally was so close to our house that we could have walked. It was bloody hot and humid today, so we drove. However, there were many more people at the rally than expected, and I had to park so far away that it may have been closer walking from home.

People were on every corner of a major intersection in our town holding their colorfully decorated and clever, or crappy in my case, signs. I think this was my favorite sign, although not from our rally.

My Fave Faves – Delayed due to the Women’s March

What was I thinking? I started a weekly Saturday blog about music that nobody asked for a week before the Women’s March. No “My Fave Faves” this week. All hands on deck for the Women’s March today.

Signs are made / March we must / When we are through with them / The GOP will be dust.

And speaking of signs, here they are …

Bearly a Post

While important things are happening world-wide, I continue to idle away on holiday. If I spend another hour in water today, I think I will officially reach saturation point and may have to be wrung dry. The place where we are staying, Bear Cave Lake, is decorated in a rustic, fun way with lots of kitschy, humorous signs. In an effort to log another blog post with virtually no effort, here are some of the funnier signs …

I saw no signs of bears at Bear Cave Lake, but did not venture into the Bear Cave which also appears not to exist. Whatever happened to truth in advertising?
