Jesus Christ vs Warren Zevon

I’m not a overly religious guy. I belong to a church, but really don’t trust any church that would have me as a member. Props to Groucho for that joke. And I am not too picky about what church I attend. You can label me more spiritual than religious. I see God everywhere and nowhere, if that makes any sense. The one place I see God nowhere these days is …

Washington, DC.

Oh sure, I see lots of politicians, mostly Republicans, draping themselves in Christian robes while they pass laws to rob the poor, oppress the weak and fatten their portfolios. By the way, those Christian robes are figurative, not literal, although if there literally was a Christian robe, I am sure Donald Trump would try and put his Trump brand name on it while making it in China.

The most famous verse in First Corinthians reads And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love.” It is believed by Christians world-wide that the Apostle Paul wrote 1 Corinthians to guide the Christian Church at Corinth back to the ways of Jesus Christ. I see no way to guide Republican lawmakers back to the ways of Jesus Christ. The way they look at 1 Corinthians 13:13 is more like “And now these three remain: market deregulation, restricting government benefits for the poor, and tax breaks for the rich; but the greatest of these is tax breaks for the rich.”

As the days grow darker the longer the Trump regime is in place, I personally look less to the ways of Jesus Christ as described in 1 Corinthians 13:13 and more to Warren Zevon who wrote, “Send lawyers, guns, and money. The shit has hit the fan.”

Enjoy, while the First Amendment is still the law …
