Sucking It Up vs. Just Sucking

I got sort of comfortable not blogging regularly last week as I dealt with some loss. I’m sure some of you (alright, most of you) got comfortable with not having to read my nonsense multiple times in a week. You may have noticed that for the first week in literally years, I did not publish a Mite Be Funny cartoon.

It was to be Mite Be Funny #300, and although I had an idea for a cartoon, it was not a great one. I guess I could say that about most of my Mite Be Funny cartoons. It has kind of run its course. But as I have explained before, I’m an OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) guy, so there was some comfort in the routine of cranking out a Mite Be Funny cartoon each week with regularity, quality be damned.

But I’ve also really become obsessed with this very zen saying attributed to Confucious.

“We have two lives, and the second begins when we realize we only have one.”

My wife thinks that makes no sense, which makes sense, since she thinks I make no sense. Does that make sense?

Anyway, since I’ve become enlightened about my second life or lack thereof, I decided I don’t want to spend it doing cartoons that might/mite be funny. Maybe once in a while, but not regularly. But I do find value in this blog, even if readers do not. It has made me a better writer. My short stories require less editing. I am aware of what needs editing after reading my first draft. So, I decided to suck it up and get back to posting to this blog. My OCD thanks me even if readers do not.

To further explain my OCD, I present this picture of a shelf above our toilet.

That’s a completely unacceptable arrangement of toilet paper. This helps a bit.

But the lack of symmetry is jarring to my senses. I made a slight adjustment to make it more palatable.

Even then, that tower of 3 in the middle is an affront to my sensitive nature as I am sure it is to yours. Fortunately, our daughters’ bathroom needed a roll which resulted in this.

Ah, finally I can find relief in the bathroom in more ways than the obvious.

You know, upon reading this post in the course of editing it, I came to the conclusion that I may want to reconsider my decision to get back to posting regularly.
