My Eclipse Day is Looking Up Musically

Today is the day of the big solar eclipse crossing the USA close to me in Chicagoland.

I started to prepare for the eclipse today, but I wondered if I should even bother for a couple reasons. First …

It’s so hard to plan when 2 big events are happening the same day. Will I be raptured before the eclipse or after? And then I realized … I’m not going anywhere today. Gulp. I had best just focus on the eclipse. But before I do, here’s the best Rapture song I could come up with.

And the second reason is that the solar eclipse that the “experts” predict won’t be the moon blocking out the sun.

So, a sun in front of a sun. Does that make it a double solar eclipse? Maybe that’s the Black Sun that Death Cab For Cutie sang about.

Back to eclipse prep, my wife got me some eclipse glasses so I could go about my business without harming my eyes. I’m sure they’re effective, because I can’t see anything out of them. I was thinking of taking a bike ride during the eclipse, but if I wore those glasses …

I wondered how a self-avowed expert on virtually everything recommended viewing the eclipse.

Oh, right. Maybe we’ll see a bunch of MAGAs who are not raptured today walking around like this tomorrow.

Thanks to John @Repeat1968 on Twitter for his art.

As for me, music will inspire me today as it does most days. Let’s get this eclipse party started with the ultimate eclipse song. With apologies to Iron Maiden for overlooking their “Total Eclipse” tune (too yelly for me), I submit Bonnie Tyler’s classic song to start the eclipse celebration.

But this afternoon when darkness envelops Chicagoland, I’ll put this classic from the Rolling Stones on repeat.

What a song, sounding as fresh today as almost 60 years ago when it was released. I wonder if I’ll still feel that way in 2099 when we’ll get the next solar eclipse in Illinois. The one thing I am certain of is that Keith will still be around playing that song. Long live the Stones (and me to see the next eclipse)!
