It’s Lollapalooza weekend in Chicago, so here’s my Lolla report on the concerts I’ve seen so far. I haven’t seen any. It turns out that we needed not only a new refrigerator-freezer, but also a new hot water heater. For whatever reasons, my family insists on hot water. Bourgeois elitists. What’s next on their list of demands? Indoor plumbing?
Anyway, my concert budget plummeted to zero quicker than Trump’s chance at acquittal of all charges after another indictment. I am left with scrounging for free shows. I did get an email about a free Michael McDermott show for tonight. We have become fans, although we have seen him twice in the span of 9 months. Another time and we may graduate from fans to stalkers. And can they make this show sound a little better?

It sounds like he’ll be busking for loose change from commuters rather than headlining a free show at the Northbrook Days festival. It should be good, but it’s an hour away, so I opted for this local concert for which I “won” free tickets.

I used quotes around won, because our local Arcada Theatre runs “contests” for free tickets when tickets aren’t selling. Everybody who enters wins. Management hopes that the ticket freeloaders like me will fill seats and buy concessions. They don’t know me very well. But why would people buy tickets when Creedence Revealed or Revered or Reviled or whoever is playing a free show soon not too far away?

The tickets weren’t cheap for Creedence Reverberated starting at $29.

And the tickets I “won” were $49 each! In my opinion, that’s a lot to pay for a tribute band like Creedence Revitalized.
So, why would anyone buy tickets to see them? Well, they were good. Real good. They sounded authentic and did a great job on the CCR songs. It was a fun show. Take a quick listen.
They were good enough to even warrant an opening act. I was glad it wasn’t a tribute band for the tribute band Creedence Revealed. Anyway, I sat in the lobby for the opening guy. He made some great song choices, but his voice was marginally above mine. Nobody wants to hear that.
Anyway, Creedence Riveted gave a great show. Maybe I’ll see them again in Hillside in a few days, but it just won’t be the same. Hillside will be outdoors with porta-potties. The Arcada Theatre has upgraded their bathrooms since I was there last.

Maybe that’s why their ticket prices are high. Anyway, I’ve got Blue Oyster Cult and the BoDeans showing up on my free concert radar that is working 24/7. As for Lolla, who wants to deal with all these people that showed up to see freakin’ Noah Kahan?
