Shellshocked

For some reason, people have compared Senator Mitch McConnell to a turtle. Well yesterday, McConnell was turtling along like usual, waiting for Senator John McCain to get healthy enough to return to the Senate and vote for the Senate’s Trumpcare bill.

And then, Twitter happened. Was it a Trump tweet?

AMA says AHCA not AOK

https://wire.ama-assn.org/ama-news/physicians-reject-house-aca-replacement-bill

Nice to see the AMA (American Medical Association) come out strongly against the Republican-backed AHCA bill as a replacement for the ACA.

Waiting, waiting, waiting for this …

Healthcare is Hard

“I have to tell you, it’s an unbelievably complex subject. Nobody knew that health care could be so complicated.” – Donald Trump in a speech yesterday.

Nope, nobody on earth considered healthcare a complex issue, but after being told that it is, NOW WE DO. On this healthcare issue, Trump reminds me of the college student who doesn’t go to class all semester, but shows up for the final exam, and finds it to be difficult. Yes, that college student may have been me and the reason for the recurring dreams several decades later.

Trump is supposed to reveal details of his healthcare plan today when he addresses Congress. I expect it to be short on details, if any exist at all considering this “surprising” complexity of the whole healthcare issue. I would not be surprised if the basics of his plan could be summed up in this manner …

Thanks to Dr. Nick for putting it in a language even Trump can understand.

My Crappy Protest Sign

My family and I went to a pro-ACA rally/protest yesterday. My wife made pretty, patriotic signs for herself and our youngest child.

Beautiful. Patriotic. Inspiring. Anytime I look at it, I’m moved to suggest my wife quit her job so we can go back on ACA healthcare.

Here’s my crappy sign …

Another Edition of “Am I a Bad Guy?”

I play the “Am I a Bad Guy?” game a lot.

  • Am I a bad guy for taking the last of the (insert favorite food here) from the pantry or refrigerator?

  • Am I a bad guy for not paying my car insurance bills on time, waiting until I get a “last notice before cancellation” letter in the mail simply because I think rates are too high?

  • Part 1: Am I a bad guy for yelling at the dog who dropped a load in the house even though I know I should have taken him out hours ago? Part 2: Am I a bad guy for moving to another room in the house, pretending I don’t see the load, hoping my wife will see it and take care of it?

  • Am I a bad guy for not raking leaves in the fall and hoping a windy day will blow my yard’s leaves into a neighbor’s yard?

Sadly, I could go on and on with examples of this game I play. I’m now playing the game again, but this time YOUR life could depend upon my answer.

Repeal Appeal

Republican lawmakers are having some second thoughts about the bill they are constructing to repeal Obamacare, formally known as the Affordable Care Act that provides health care insurance at reasonable, subsidized rates, irrespective of pre-existing conditions to almost 30 million Americans.

They know that repealing Obamacare will leave these almost 30 million Americans without health insurance, and that will likely result in serious illness and probably deaths for many Americans.

But that is not what is troubling Republican lawmakers.

Goodbye, Obamacare

As I write this, it was 15 days ago that I went to the doctor to be diagnosed with acute pharyngitis. I accepted the compliment, although I thought it odd since I had not dropped my pants during the exam. I was concerned, and after an exhaustive 30 second Google search, I found I had been diagnosed with a very bad sore throat. Huh. They told me I had a bad throat infection and checked me for strep, but it was negative. I could not speak. I had no voice above a whisper. I felt terrible. Bad sore throat? They threw 10 days of penicillin at me and sent me home. Over the next 10 days, I continued to get worse. I suspected I was in bad shape when I noticed my wife had done some Google searches of her own on my computer for local funeral homes.
