I am leaving this weekend for a few days to holiday at a lake close to the Canadian border. Our destination is a place I vacationed at decades ago when I was a wee lad. I am prepared to have my memories far exceed reality. However, we may never make it there. Here are the instructions once we get close.
Go to the north side of Hayward on HWY 63. – That’s easy enough.
AT the last stop sign north of town, turn right (east) on HWY 77. – Uh, how do I tell that’s the last stop sign?
When you pass Walmart, you know you are going the right way. Hit your odometer and measure 20 miles. – It’s always wise to pass a Walmart and shop at local grocery stores. Unfortunately, Walmart is the closest grocery store around.
You will Ross Rd is on the LEFT side of the road. Turn LEFT down Ross Rd. – Well, that’s easy enough. Per Google Maps, if I miss Ross Road, there are no roads for many miles as we head toward wilderness.
When you get onto Ross Rd … drive all the way in about 1 mile, stay on the main road as there are some roads the lead off of Ross Rd. – Uh-oh. How do I tell which is the main road?
At the Fork about 1/2 mile in go to your left. you will pass some cabins… but keep driving till you see a small white sign saying “tranquility on teal lake”. – There will be no tranquility for me until I actually find Teal Lake.
Take a left down this hill and then when the road splits again before going down the steep hill. – Downhill a lot. I can relate.
Go right on the middle road (not down the hill) towards a big 3 story building. This road will lead you to the bottom of this 3 story building. – Wait, now I don’t go down a hill? I was just headed down 2 hills. How do I know when the hills stop and the middle road begins?
Blue wing is the first driveway. You will see a picnic table and porch swing. And a sign that says BLUE WING. Just pull straight into where the picnic table is. Door will be unlocked with the key on the table for you. – And a bear sitting in the kitchen.
Make yourself at home. – Like the bear.
The light switch for the kitchen is behind the bookcase with the tv. – Hidden. It figures.
The topper for me is that I checked Google Maps and after turning left on Ross Road, no other directions seem to make any sense per Google Maps. If we go too far north, we’ll enter Canada, unless Canada had the sense to recently build a wall on their southern border.
