Get Write To It!

Last year, I somehow took second place in a short story contest. The featured image on this post shows me hard at work on my winning story.

If you want to read my winning story, here’s a link to a previous post so you can read it.

Well, now it’s your turn. It’s short story contest time again. It only costs 5 bucks per story submitted, but this time the story has to be about this picture …

Uh-oh. That looks challenging. I quickly thought of a story involving the woman by herself on the hill being a drug kingpin who was taking her child drug mules out for some recreation. I started writing … and wrote a political story having nothing to do with drugs, but about women’s rights and segregation. I never quite know where a story will go when I start writing. Although I like the story I wrote and a couple trusted readers like it, I’m not too optimistic about winning anything this year with a political story in such a divided country in an election year. Lotsa luck to me.

But maybe you’ll be wiser and write a non-political story that appeals to all readers and wins a prize. Here’s the link to apply. But get started writing. Submissions are only accepted through the 15th of March. Come on, write right now.
