My Recent Writing Roller Coaster

I’m working harder than ever to shed work responsibilities as I try to retire, so I can write more. Why? I’m not so sure anymore after getting emails like these.

Can we really trust a contest that calls the 2nd quarter of the year the 3rd quarter? Anyway, I was hopeful of seeing my name among the over 300 listed on the winner’s blog as finalists, honorable mentions, and suspected internet scammers. Nope, unless I forgot that I used my pen name of Seymour Butts.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, this happened.

They announced the 2024 Wergle Flomp Humor Poetry Contest results, and once again, my name was absent from the winners, finalists, and entries scrawled in crayon. Maybe I’m just not a poet but don’t know it. Hey …

The final nail in my writing coffin was that my streak of 9 or 10 wins on curatedmicrofiction.com was broken with what I thought would be a winning entry.

You be the judge. Here’s the link to the prompt and my story. Well, I thought it was cutely humorous.

I considered picking up my pencil and going home to end this writing game. Then I realized I was already home. Things looked a bit brighter after I received this.

It’s a free verse (too lazy to rhyme) poem about the death of a brother-in-law. You can click this link to read it.

I have been successful with shedding some work, and I am back to writing. To ease back in, I am taking another whack at curatedmicrofiction.com with a humor story. We’ll see if I’m still funny or not. Possibly never was.

If you reached the end of this post and don’t care about my writing roller coaster, perhaps I could interest you in a Love Roller Coaster.
